Tongs
Long tongs for carrying finished or in-progress pieces, especially into the annealer.
What it is
Put-away and loading tongs are long tongs with protected tips. Steinert’s light put-away tongs are 20” of 1/4” stainless steel with high-temperature sleeves wired onto the ends;[1] Spiral Arts’ heavier loading tongs have a 16” reach and replaceable covers of thick woven high-temperature fiber.[2]
How it’s used
They carry work that’s off the pipe: Steinert says its light tongs are useful for ornaments and for placing small work in the annealer,[1] and Spiral Arts calls its loading tongs “a must have for ornament and pumpkin makers”.[2]
