Small dies on a handle for pressing a figure, texture, or maker's mark into a bit of hot glass.
What it is
A stamp is a small patterned or figured die on a handle. Carlo Donà’s Murano catalog includes stamp molds of faces, shells, skulls, lions, strawberries, cherubs and tigers, in sizes around 15–43 mm.[1] Jim Moore’s texture stamps have a 1” head on a 5” handle in patterns like bullseye, honeycomb and fan.[2] Leviathan makes custom “3D brass stamp[s] or brand[s] for glass” up to 4” across.[3]
How it’s used
Pressed into a hot bit or prunt, a stamp leaves its figure or texture; Olympic Color Rods describes Jim Moore’s as a way to “add some texture to your glass”.[2] Custom stamps and brands put a maker’s mark or logo on the work.[3]
