Soffietta (puffer)

A metal cone on a tube for blowing a piece out further once it's off the blowpipe.
What it is
A soffietta, or puffer, is a cone on the end of a tube. Jim Moore’s come straight or bent, with cones from 2” to 4.5” across on a 17-1/4” tube;[1] Carlo Donà makes bent and straight puffers with cones from 50 to 150 mm.[3]
How it’s used
It’s used to inflate a piece further once it has been taken off the blowpipe.[4] Jim Moore credits the puffer’s ability to “thin out bulging walls and shoulders” with saving many pieces from the scrap heap.[1] Steinert’s two-part aluminum puffer is meant for working alone, and its head can be detached and used with an air hose.[2]
