Heat-protective clothing
Sleeves, gloves, mitts, hoods and jackets of Kevlar, carbon felt, or aluminized fabric that protect against radiant heat.
What it is
Hot-shop protective clothing covers the parts of the body nearest the heat. Woven Kevlar sleeves come in 14” or 18” lengths, with or without a thumbhole;[1] mitts and gloves are made of a wool-lined carbon fiber and Kevlar blend;[2] and aluminized hoods, such as Chicago Protective Apparel’s, give complete head and shoulder coverage with a replaceable Lexan window.[3]
How it’s used
Chicago Protective’s hood sits far enough from the face to wear safety glasses or a mask underneath, and can be fitted with an air supply.[3]
