Garage forks and paddles
Also called forcella (Murano), annealer fork
Long forks and paddles for loading finished pieces into the annealer (the garage).
What it is
A garage fork is a long metal rod with a forked end.[1] Correll makes curved, straight, and “Avolio” forks, plus garage paddles.[3]
How it’s used
On Murano the forcella is used by the forcellante to load glassware into the annealing furnace and to move or remove it.[1] Corning’s study of a 1570 painting of the Medici glass workshop describes the same job: placing finished pieces in the annealing oven with a long, forklike tool, then managing their gradual cooling by pushing them, in small steps, from the hottest to the coolest part of the chamber.[2]
