Footing tools
Hinged wooden boards and profile blocks for flattening and shaping the foot of a goblet or vessel.
What it is
Foot boards are pairs of wooden boards hinged together. Glass Toolbox’s are planed and sanded cherry, hinged with two leather straps, and sized by the width of the foot they make, from 40 to 100 mm.[1] Fantlab makes a foot-shaping set of two profile blocks and a counter-block, mounted on stainless jack handles.[2]
How it’s used
They shape the foot of a piece. Fantlab’s set is for when “design and accurate repeatability is vital”.[2] Like other wooden tools, foot boards are soaked before use and stored wet.[1]
