Blow hoses

Also called blowhose, blowpipe hose extension

Hoses, swivels, and extenders that let a glassblower blow into the pipe without bringing it to the mouth.

What it is

A blow hose is a length of tubing with a mouthpiece, joined to the blowpipe by a swivel. Steinert’s hose extension slides over the pipe’s mouthpiece and has a 90-degree swivel connector on a 6-foot latex hose;⁠⁠[1] Glass Toolbox’s kit uses a 200 cm silicone hose with three adapters and spare mouthpieces.⁠⁠[2]

How it’s used

A hose lets you work a piece at the bench or glory hole without bringing the pipe to your mouth.⁠⁠[1] Glass Toolbox recommends its kit for working alone, schools, and busy studios.⁠⁠[2] Related tools solve the same problem in other ways: Spiral Arts’ pocket inflator lets an assistant provide air at the bench without touching the mouthpiece,⁠⁠[3] and a rotating blowpipe extender fits on the end of the pipe for comfort and to reduce the risk of chipped teeth.⁠⁠[4]
